"Wait... I gotta talk about myself...?"

Melissa McCommon is a freelance artist with a Degree in Illustration and Graphic Design with over 14 years of experience as a professional freelance illustrator and comic creator.

Melissa has worked on a number of projects for companies, and most notably providing coloring assistance for the middle school aged graphic novels by Svetlana Chmakova, including the Berrybrook Middle School Series titles including: the Eisner nominated “Awkward”, “Brave”, “Crush”, “Diary”, “Enemies”— and The Weirn Books Series titles “The Weirn Books Vol. 1 Be Warry of the Silent Woods” and “The Weirn Books Vol. 2 The Ghost and the Stolen Dragon”.

She gained local fame in 2019 when she created the mascots Rosie, Manny, and Adriane the cow for Vaca-Con; the first pop culture convention Melissa helped establish in her hometown of Vacaville, CA. After moving to Massachusetts in 2021, Melissa was recruited by PortConMaine to do the artwork for their convention, and has continued to do the artwork for the convention until 2025! After 3 years as a New Englander, Melissa, her rag-tag gang of roomies, and all their pet’s moved back to California, eventually settling in the East SF Bay Area.

When not working on freelance, Melissa can be found working on her own projects, such as her webcomic “Epic Chaos!”, and her Patreon only autobiographical series “Confessions of a Comic Artist”. Besides her obsession with all things comics and art supplies, Melissa enjoys fruity teas, cats, and going to conventions.

She is a proud scale mom to a crested gecko named Pita, two ball pythons named Precious & Skully, A colony of mourning geckos all named Janet, and a rescued black and white Argentine tegu named Cleo.
